Week 6 Schema

What is learning? My idea of learning still didn't change much from last week I still think we need to connect our knowledge that we learn to our prior knowledge to help us remember more. I think that there are two ways to remember thing and thus learn things. First we need to experience them and second we need to build no our experiences.
What can instructors do to help learning? instructors can encourage or create experiences to help the learn and/or build on the experiences to help learners remember more.

  1. Yep. I think the fundamental difference between prior knowledge and schemata is that the later involves bias, emotion, attitude, and the like that affect a student's willingness to learn. A teacher who can roll with that will be extremely effective.

  2. David I too think that experiences are a large part of learning. Whether we create the experiences for the student in class or the student has had many of them from his home life. In my mind, experiences are the real teachers. They can affect more deeply, as Becky commented, bias, emotion, attitude and a student's willingness to learn.

  3. I like what you said about the importance of instructors creating experiences to help students learn. Sometimes, the background knowledge of students in a particular area is so deficient, that teachers need to step in and help create experiences that will help students develop an appropriate schema before introducing new information.
