How can learning be best effectuated by a teacher/trainer

We are able to learn things on our own but with a teacher we are able to learn faster and more correctly. As a baby learns to walk they are able to take steps on his own. The baby will eventually be able to walk on his own without any help. The next thing is learning how to run. If the now child learns how to run on his own he may develop many bad habits and not become as fast as he needs to be. With help from a trainer he will be able to develop skills more quickly and the correct skills.
As a teacher helps a student develop the skills necessary to succeed the teacher can step back and watch student grow and develop but will still need to step in to correct same errors.

  1. I agree. I think the challenge as a teacher (or more especially a parent as in your example) is finding the right balance of stepping in to help and backing off to let the student grow. Some teachers have a real talent in this area.

  2. I like your analogy of teaching a baby to walk.I think you do have to step back and let your stumble a bit after you guided them a little ways. I think we all learn best from challenges and experiences that are new to us. As a teacher, sometimes I tend to be a control freak, and I am trying to learn how to give my students more freedom to try things without being guided all of the time.

  3. This is so true. I will respond as a trainer - of a puppy. We just got a new puppy and we are trying to housebreak her. We made the mistake of sometimes putting her out in the front and sometimes putting her out in the back. Now she doesn't know which door to go to. Our mistake. She is only 8 weeks old and she is already showing the effects of our mistake. If an 8 week old puppy is like this, imagine the effects on a human.
